Ascap. | | coments | Erotica was the first release of Maverick Entertaiment, the company Madonna launched in 1992. It's the first single from the discussed album of the same name Erotica. The single release, and the publication of the Sex book, made everybody think that Erotica (the album) was going to be just a bunch of porn songs, but Madonna herself said that the album was a record for all ages, and the book was just for adults.
There is a rare version of the song, not published. It was recorded by Madonna & Junior Vasquez before she decided to make the album with Shep Pettibone & Andre Betts. The name of this version is Love Hurts and is very different, although some lines are the same as the ones of Erotic (the version that is included in the Sex book). The chorus is "Love Hurts, Love Hurts... Do you remember the time, Love Hurts, Love Hurts, when we fell in love..."
Erotica keeps the same style Madonna choose for Justify My Love, in which she changes the singing for some whispering and...strange noises.
Erotica contains a sample from Kool & The Gang's Jungle Boogie.
This song can also be found in Madonna's second gratests hits album, GHV2.

| It was filmed in New York by Fabien Baron , the artistic director of the Sex book. It includes images and scenes in super-8 format, giving the video an old and filthy look, from the photo sessions of the book. Madonna appears as Dita Parlo, showing one of her best known looks.
As is the book, in the video we can see appearances by Vanilla Ice (he was said to have a romance with Madonna at that moment), Naomi Campbell, Big Daddy Kane, Isabella Rosselini (appearing in this video almost made her break her contract with the Lancome make up company), Ingrid Casares & Udo Kier (also appearing in the Deeper And Deeper video), and many more...
Many people said Madonna had gone too far with a video that vas close to porn. The same as Like A Prayer and Justify My Love, Erotica was censored by most media, and MTV aired it just 3 times, and only after midnight. There are 3 versions of this video: the normal version could be seen in Europe, a censored version was aired in USA, and another one more explicit and hard (in which Madonna shows her breasts among other things) called X-rated version. |

Producer Shep Pettibone encouraged Madonna to inspire herself in the stories of the Sex book. This is the reason that explains why Erotica and Erotic are so similar, when they are different songs. | | who is dita parlo? | |  The character Madonna plays in the Erotica song and video is Dita Parlo, the one who tell us about her sexual fantasies in the Sex book. Madonna used that name for some time to sign in the hotel register books all over the world in her travels. But Dita Parlo really existed, although she hasn't any relation with the Dita Madonna plays. Madonna took this name from a german actress (1906-1971), who appeared in some french films as L'Atalante or Grand Illusion. Dita tried to get to Hollywood and become famous, but she didn't get it.
