As Shep Pettibone tells us in the Erotica Diaries, while one of the recordings sessions from the album, he was trying some bass lines and percussion for the song Goodbye To Innocence. Madonna was bored and she began to sing some lines of the song Fever (maybe remembering that her 'friend' Sandra Bernhard sang it recently). The result was really good, and both Madonna and Shep liked it, so they searched for the lyrics and made some arrangements to make it a dance song. Finally, Goodbye To Innocence wasn't included in the album, because the final choice, Fever, was really good. It was the last song they recorded, and it even was a single. Madonna made a version really different from the original, making an up-tempo dance song that was along with the sound of the Erotica album. Along with Dear Jessie and many others, Fever wasn't released as a single in USA, where it was just released as the Bad Girl B-side, although lots of promo remixes were released. | | videoclip |

| The Fever video isn't one of her greatest videos, that's true. What is more, some fans say that's the worst Madonna video. It was directed by the frenchman Stephane Sednaoui (who would introduce Madonna to Mirwaïs, producer of the Music album, many years later), and the video is really similar to others from the same director (The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Neneh Cherry, Kylie Minogue...). In fact, the video Give It Away he made for The Red Hot Chilli Pepers is 'too' similar: same camera movements, same colours, painted bodies,
The video: fast zoom movements over red backgrounds (sometimes too red), and Madonna singing along with red hair, or silver body, dressed in Jean-Paul Gaultier designs (the green dress reached 12'000.00 in an auction at Sotheby's). The original work S. Sednaoui makes in this video is really...original. The only thing that saves the video is the excellent version chosen for it, the Edit One version, much much better than the version chosen for the album. There is also another video for Fever called Etvl Bonus Mix, with the same pictures, but it sounds an edit version of Murk Boys Miami Mix. | | | live | | Madonna has performed Fever live three times. The first one was in the american show Saturday Night Live, where she also performed Bad Girl. The second one was in the Arsenio Hall's 1000th show, where Madonna seems to be under the influence of any drug, and she even made a mistake, apologizing for it. She also performed The Lady Is A Tramp with Anthony Kields (from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers) in the same show. And finally, a club version of this song is the second tune from the The Girlie Show. _ _

Davenport y E. Cooley, and, for many years, has been sung and covered by many many artists, making the song a classic. But it was Peggy Lee who made the tune really popular in the 60's. Tha White Lady of the Black Music has recently died, after 50 years in the music world, a Grammy and more than 600 songs. But many other artists have made versions of Fever: Little Willie John, Elvis Presley, Jerry Butler, Rita Coolidge, Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan, The Cramps, Annabella, Tom Verlaine,... and Madonna, of course.
