Its love lyrics, its catchy chorus and its easy rythm took this song awai from all the controversy created with the first Like A Prayer single release. Madonna sings about a new love, a very special love. This joyful song has a rupture at the end which bring us an acapella section, one of the best parts of the tune. The single got a great acceptance in the charts.
Chrerish included a B-side called Supernatural, a track previously recorded for the Like A Prayer album that wasn't included on it.
Cherish was one of the songs remixed again by Shep Pettibone and Michael Hutchinson, to be released in the compilation The Inmaculate Collection. It was also part of the original soundtrack from the film My Own Private Idaho. Cherish was the last vinyl single released in the U.S., since that release, all the following Madonna singles were in cd-single and cassette-single formats. | | videoclip | 
 | Another Madonna classic, it is a simple video, filmed in black and white in a beach in North Malibu. It was directed by Herb Ritts, who was the favourite photograper of Madonna. It was ther first time that Herb Ritts was to direct a music video, and Madonna was the one to convince him. He would later direct some other music videos for artists such as Michael and Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez,...
Madonna is dancing and singing around in a beach, while some athletic and handsome mermaid guys are swimming in the water. The camera was hand held by Ritts in the whole video, and the song was played faster in the playback, to make an effect of slow wave motion. While filming the video, it was a very cold day, so as soon as Madonna stopped to dance, she had to put some blankets on. Another funny fact about the video is that the underwater scenes were filmed in a swimming pool, they used a dirty swimming pool, so you don't realise it isn't the sea water.
Tony Ward, who would later be Madonna's boyfriend, and would appear also in her Erotica and Justify My Love videos, appears as one of the hunk mermaids. Madonna is really sexy in this video and with a little more weight than usual, which makes her look really gorgeous. |

| | herb ritts | |  Herb Ritts will always be remembered as one of the best photographers of the XX century. He was born in Los Angeles, USA, on 1952. A great photo session made to Richard Gere make him the photographer all the stars wanted to work with. His pictures caugth poses that were different to the pictures and works from that moment, and he made a non conventional work, showing some hidden sides of the stars in his photos. He was a friend of Madonna, and he worked with her heavily through the 80's. One of the most critic acclaimed Madonna cover, True Blue, was made by him. He also made the pictures used in her albums: You Can Dance, Like A Prayer and The Inmaculate Collection. He has directed her Cherish video, was the official photographer of her first wedding,… We can say that Herb Ritts is an important part of Madonna's artistic and personal life.
He died on December 27th, 2002, due to breathing problems. Herb Ritts said that he would rather be remembered for his work, instead of himself. Amen.
