 Madonna has always had her mother in mind through all her career and her life. Her mother died when she was five years old, and this song is dedicated to her mother. Madonna imagines herself as a child who loses her mother, and gives advice and support to this child. This is the first time Madonna dedicates a song to her mother, but she would do it later again: "Inside Of Me" (1994), " Mer Girl" (1998), "Mother And Father" (2003). Madonna’s mother was named Madonna Louise Fortin and died at thirty of breast cancer. Madonna remembers her mother as a very beautiful and nice woman, and she has always remarked the great void that her mother left when she died. Maybe the career Madonna has had would have been completely different if her mother were still alive."Promise To Try" is a beautiful ballad, in which the voice of Madonna is sad and in a low tone. The song has some piano and string arrangements, and an excellent chello solo. This song hasn’t been released as a single, and it didn´t appeared in any B-side. It wasn’t also included in the ballad recopilation "Something To Remember" (1995). There is no official video for"Promise To Try", but in the documentary “In Bed With Madonna”, the song was used in one of the scenes (the visit of Madonna to the grave of her mother). This is one of the most touching moments of the whole film, and Madonna explains her feelings towards her mother. | ||||
