Third single
extracted from the Like A Virgin album. Some unlucky facts
have made fans consider it one of her worst choices as a single. Sire
decided to release it very fast, and was in the charts as the same
time as the hit Crazy For You, that was included in the Vision
Quest soundtrack. Angel was released with Into The Groove
(another song from another film) as the B-side, and this song eclipsed
Angel. Sire records didn't even made a video for this
song, they just made some edits of previous Madonna images.
Many facts that made Angel a failure as a single
But, surprisingly, it was successful in the charts, reaching #5 in
USA and UK (maybe due to its B-side).
Angel is a fast song, with a good and dancing rhythm. It is
a love song, but it isn't serious enough to think in the lyrics while
you hear it. Even Madonna doesn't sing it with the serious
mood she should have (the first thing we hear is her attractive and
soft laugh). This mixture of love lyrics and fast and happy music,
with was also present in her first album, is part of Madonna's
way of making music. Something like "don't take things too seriously". |

There
is a video for this single, but it really is an edit made
with extrats from the Like A Virgin, Burning Up, Material
Girl and Borderline videos. It isn't interesting
at all, and shows how poor was the attention for promoting
this single.

| Angel |
Why
am I standing on a cloud
Every time you're around
And my sadness disappears
Every time you are near
You
must be an angel
I can see it in your eyes
Full of wonder and surprise
And just now I realize
Oooh
you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise, I can see it in your eyes
Walking
down a crowded avenue
Other faces seem like nothing next to you
And I can't hear the traffic rushing by
Just the pounding of my heart and that's why
You
must be an angel
I can see it in your eyes
Full of wonder and surprise
And just now I realize
Oooh
you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
|
Oooh
you're an angel
In disguise, I can see it in your eyes
You're
an angel
You're an angel, baby
You're an angel
You must be an angel
Now
I believe that dreams come true
'Cause you came when I wished for you
This just can't be coincidence
The only way that this makes sense is that
Oooh
you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise, I can see it in your eyes
You're
an angel
You're an angel, baby
You're an angel
You must be an angel, baby
Clouds
just disappear...

the chart |
| Although its
promotion was really awful, Angel had a good behaviour in the
charts, reaching #5 in USA and UK and #3 in Japan
and Spain. It reached a poor #19 in Canada. This is
because the B-side, Into The Groove, wasn't released as a single. |

The only
chance we had to see Madonna performing Angel live
was in her first tour, The Virgin Tour, in the US.
The official video release doesn't include this performance.
