Madonna included this song as a tribute to "the beauty and mistery of the latin-american people", although some may say it was some kind of marketing campaing to reach the latin community from USA. La Isla Bonita is an stylish recreation of bossa-nova music. In this song, there is a calypso mid-tempo rythm, with a soft percussion and a friendly bass which completes the personal Madonna recipe. Madonna herself gets a real latin fresh tone. This song is one of the best Madonna songs, specially by the latin speakers fans. As a curiosity you should know that this song was originally proposed to Michael Jackson before than Madonna (it's really hard trying to imagine Jacko singing La Isla Bonita). The song is about a love story that takes place in a wonderful tropical island, which Madonna remembers with emotion. In 1990, La Isla Bonita was remixed and remastered again to take part in Madonna's first greatest hits album: The Immaculate Collection. It also appears in the japanese edition of Something To Remember, Madonna's balads collection. | | videoclip |
 | It was filmed in L.A., in a latin neighbourhood, and it was directed by Mary Lambert (who has also directed Borderline, Like a Virgin, Material Girl and Like A Prayer). This video has some typical elements from the latin culture: We can see Madonna praying in her own room and the go out to the street to dance with her neighbours, dressed in a really sexy flamenco suit. In this video we can also see Paul Pesco, who has always been with Madonna in all her tours as a great guitarist. | | | live | | Madonna has performanced La Isla Bonita in three of her world tours: Who's That Girl Tour, The Girlie Show World Tour, and the Drowned World Tour. As you can see in the images, the latin image has been in all of them. . .

I fell in love with San Pedro Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me Te dijo te amo I prayed that the days would last They went so fast
Tropical the island breeze All of nature wild and free This is where I long to be La isla bonita And when the samba played The sun would set so high Ring through my ears and sting my eyes Your Spanish lullaby
I want to be where the sun warms the sky When it's time for siesta you can watch them go by Beautiful faces, no cares in this world Where a girl loves a boy, and a boy loves a girl | Last night I dreamt of San Pedro It all seems like yesterday, not far away Tropical the island breeze All of nature wild and free This is where I long to be La isla bonita And when the samba played The sun would set so high Ring through my ears and sting my eyes Your Spanish lullaby
Tropical the island breeze All of nature wild and free This is where I long to be La isla bonita And when the samba played The sun would set so high Ring through my ears and sting my eyes Your Spanish lullaby
La la la la la la la Te dijo te amo La la la la la la la El dijo que te ama | | | | the latin madonna | | Madonna has always liked the latin world, and this has clearly reflected in her songs. With La Isla Bonita, she could show us her latin side for the first time, but it was really the first from a long list. In the famous show Saturday Night Live in 1985 we could hear her singing and speaking in spanish. In 1996 she dared to record a complete song in spanish (Veras), and she also got the role of one of the greatest women from Argentina, Eva Duarte. Lately, she had recorded an spanish version of What It Feels Like For A Girl (Lo Que Siente La Mujer), and she even got her own Flamenco Party in the Drowned World Tour. Madonna has always been surrounded by latin people (the father of her own daughter is!).

It is designed by Jeri McManus Heiden. | | in the chart | | It was the least successful USA single of the five singles from the True Blue album, just reaching #4. But it was really acclaimed worldwide, reaching #1 in UK and in Canada, and #5 in Japan. Strange as it seems it just reached a poor #8 in Spain. | | official versions | 1. Album Version (4:01) 2.
